Saturday was a significant milestone for Victorian Women’s Premier Cricket T20 Cricket, with the first-ever Geelong women’s side playing a double-header at GMHBA Stadium.
Premier League Cricket has not been played at the ground for 25 years and it is a wonderful opportunity for our Premier Cricket club to play in the sporting heart of Geelong.
‘As a multi-purpose venue, we are proud and excited to host Women’s Premier Cricket at our Stadium’ said Gerard Griffin, CEO, Kardinia Park Stadium Trust said.
“In the future, we would love an annual premier Cricket match, men or women to be played at the ground.”
This sentiment is shared by Geelong Cricket Club President, Michael King.
“We were delighted that given this is our inaugural season in Women’s Premier First’s cricket our women have the opportunity to play on this historic mecca of a ground,” said King.
“They were great games with a brilliant atmosphere. We thank the Trust for their support and Geelong Cricket Club would also hope it can become an annual event on the premier cricket calendar.”
