The City of Greater Geelong and Kardinia Park Stadium Trust (KPST) are working together to set the future vision of Kardinia Park. This work expands upon the earlier work from the City of Greater Geelong which commenced in 2023.
Urbis has been engaged to facilitate a comprehensive consultation process to create a masterplan supported by all the park’s stakeholders – including Kardinia Park Stadium Trust, Geelong Football Club, Geelong Cricket Club, Geelong Central Netball Association, Netball Victoria, Kardinia Senior Citizens Club, St Mary’s Sporting Club, Geelong Football Umpires League and Kardinia Aquatic Centre.
This week, a future-focused visioning workshop was held to allow an extensive range of Geelong and precinct-based stakeholders the opportunity to discuss goals, objectives, inhibitors and enablers for a successful precinct. There were facilitated discussions regarding amplifying benefits for Kardinia Park as well as reflections and conversations regarding other great sports and entertainment precincts around the world and what they are doing well. This was the first step in the consultation process towards creating an aligned vision for the precinct.
The engagement sessions will continue with a series of workshops, due diligence and investigations involving both the park’s stakeholders and the broader community over the next 6 months.
Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan said working with all stakeholders on the masterplan was essential.
“The City of Greater Geelong manages 65 per cent of Kardinia Park – it’s a very significant place for both elite and community sport in our region, and this comprehensive process will give everyone the chance to have input on the reserve’s long term future,” Mayor Sullivan said.
“We’re looking forward to productive discussions with all the stakeholders, and the broader community to create this new vision to support the community for the next 30 years.”
Kardinia Park Stadium Trust Chief Executive Gerard Griffin said
“The City of Greater Geelong and Kardinia Park Stadium Trust have engaged Urbis to facilitate a comprehensive vision for the entire Park and Precinct.
This process will look to meet the growing needs of the precinct, tenants and our community.
We look forward to creating a future-focused vision that works in the best interests of this growing community for the next 30 years.”
