Kardinia Park Stadium Trust along with the Victorian State Government and Melbourne Storm are thrilled to announce a pre-season match between Melbourne Storm and the New Zealand Warriors at GMHBA Stadium in February 2019.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events and Sport John Eren joined Melbourne Storm CEO Dave Donaghy and Kardinia Park Stadium Trust Chief Executive Michael Brown today in Geelong to announce the 2019 fixture.

The trial match against the New Zealand Warriors will be played under lights on Friday 22 February.

Kardinia Park Stadium Trust Chief Executive Michael Brown expressed his enthusiasm for yet another major sporting event on the hallowed turf of GMHBA Stadium:

“Melbourne Storm have been one of the best teams in the NRL for a long time and we are thrilled to welcome them to GMHBA Stadium,” he said.

“To be able to host the Melbourne Storm in the pre-season game will be a great bonus for Geelong and will bring another elite sporting team to Australia’s best regional stadium.”

The clash between Melbourne Storm and New Zealand Warriors joins a huge line up of exciting sporting matches at GMHBA Stadium over the summer, including Melbourne Renegades WBBL and BBL games and an A-League match between Melbourne Victory and the Newcastle Jets.

“We’re very excited about bringing this match to GMHBA Stadium and giving fans in Geelong and the Bellarine the chance to see elite NRL players in their home town,” Melbourne Storm CEO, Dave Donaghy said.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren was delighted to be supporting NRL in Victoria:

“This is a massive coup for Geelong, which will bring droves of visitors to the region, boosting businesses and supporting local jobs,” he said.
