What do you love most about where you live?: What’s not to love about Geelong.
What do you love about Kardinia Park?: The BRCC – it’s close to home, is a great facility. I love that the precinct hosts many other sports, it’s a good community centre for all sports, social connection opportunities such as St Mary’s pre and post a stadium events.
Favourite Sport to Watch: Cricket and AFL
Favourite Sport to Participate In: Cricket. In 2026 the Geelong Seniors team will travel to England to play 10 games over 3 weeks.
Memorable Moment at Kardinia Park: Playing in the centre of the stadium.
What does community mean to you?: Everything. The Geelong Seniors Cricket club particularly – the social aspect. We always a coffee after training. Some of these members have lost partners, are at risk of social isolation and they get a whole new set of friends through the club. It’s an eclectic group of guys that come here equally and with respect – we really enjoy the banter. This club gives us physical and mental health benefits in spades.
Additional Thoughts: Seniors cricket is growing rapidly with nationals competitions now capturing over 60s, 65s, 70s etc. Cricket is a global sport so you can play all year round. There are opportunities for seniors to be selected in state and national teams and experience travel. I have done 3 tours to England and 2 World Cups 2024 in Changi and captained the 2022 Aus over 60s side in Mooloolaba. Closer by I love participating in the Border Cup in Mt Gambier/SA or competition in Echuca. Lots of travel, lots of fun. There is life after work.
