This week we celebrated Geelong Netball legend, Holly Carew at the latest instalment of the ‘Icons of Kardinia Park’ lunch series. An initiative honoring personalities that have made Kardinia Park the vibrant hub of community activity that it is today.
Holly’s playing career begun at the age of 12 when the game was still known as women’s basketball and continued until she was 53 years old, with an uncountable number of games played in that time. Following her success as a player, Holly began her umpiring career. This was at a time when there was only one umpire per court and the teams didn’t wear positional bibs.
Holly has been recognised on multiple occasions for her many years of service to the sport, including a Life Membership of Geelong Netball Association, a Netball Victoria Distinction Award and an Australian Sports Medal.
Now in her 90’s, Holly’s passion for the game hasn’t wavered, and it is an honour to name her an Icon of Kardinia Park.
