Located at GMHBA Stadium in Kardinia Park, the heart of sport in the region, Geelong Sports Museum explores the rich sporting history of the region.
Geelong Sports Museum opened in June 2024 and welcomed over 5,000 visitors, including more than 600 school students, in its first year.
From October 2025, the Museum will now be open on Saturdays, ensuring more visitors will be able to explore the museum which features 80 artefacts representing 30 different sports.
“We’ve been delighted to see the Geelong Sports Museum come to life in the new Joel Selwood Stand as part of the Stage 5 redevelopment project at Kardinia Park. Seeing people of all ages engaging with the stories and immersive hands-on experiences has been very rewarding for the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust team. As we enter our second year of operation, opening on Saturdays is key to making the museum more accessible for our visitors, and we look forward to welcoming more tourists who are visiting Geelong and the Bellarine, as well as Geelong locals,” says Gerard Griffin, CEO Kardinia Park Stadium Trust.
The Museum is open Thursday – Saturday 10.00am – 2.30pm with group bookings welcome.
Experiences within the museum include:
- Testing your knowledge in the sports quiz
- Trying your hand at rowing down the Barwon River
- Recording your own commentary in the broadcast booth
- Snapping a selfie in the photobooth
Exhibitions are built around 3 central themes – Origins, Game Changers, and Community – each celebrating the spirit and evolution of sport in the region. Notable displays include a brass medal awarded to Wadawurrung man Dan Dan Nook, recognised as the fastest runner at the 1860 Scottish Highland Games, and the iconic yellow jersey worn by Cadel Evans during his 2011 Tour de France victory.
