Festival of Sport nominated for The Victorian Sport Awards.

The Festival of Sport 2019 has been announced as a finalist for Community Sporting Event of the Year at The Victorian Sport Awards.

The Awards, which are presented by the State Government of Victoria and Vicsport, honours individual and team athletes, coaches, administrators and volunteers from both metropolitan and regional Victoria.

The second annual Festival of Sport was recognised as the biggest multi-sport Festival of its kind, coordinating the participation of 92 sport and recreation organisations and offering over 60 different sporting activities throughout the day.

Attracting more than 14,000 patrons, the day showcased a diverse range of sporting events and family entertainment, including multi-cultural food and dance, exercise sessions and events including the Geelong Kids Triathlon, a skate competition and a medieval arena.  In addition, the Festival featured inclusive areas such as a Youth Hangout Zone, an Active Ageing Zone, a multi-cultural Zone, a Healthy Living Zone and a Sensory Zone for people with sensory needs.

Each year the Victorian Sport Awards receives hundreds of nominations from State Sporting Associations, Regional Sport Assemblies, Local Government Authorities, teammates, club members, coaches or their local community in recognition of their outstanding contribution to sport and active recreation.

Gerard Griffin CEO of the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust said:

“The Geelong community have truly embraced the Festival of Sport and we are thrilled it has been recognised as a finalist for the Community Sporting Event of the Year.

To be up against such a high calibre of finalists is a testament to the high quality and diversity of the Festival, and of course all of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.”

The Awards will be presented on 20 February 2019.
