Geelong will host the Melbourne Renegades’ BBL season opener against the Sydney Thunder as part of the new KFC BBL|09 fixture released today.
The Renegades’ title defence will begin in Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Thursday December 19.
The Renegades will play a second match in Geelong on January 7. It’s the third consecutive season the club has hosted matches at GMHBA Stadium.
“We are thrilled to welcome the reigning BBL champions, the Melbourne Renegades back to GHMBA Stadium for a third successive year,” Kardinia Park Stadium Trust CEO Gerard Griffin said.
“The Renegades have truly left their mark on Geelong in recent years and I look forward to seeing the Stadium full of red, as local fans once again enjoy all the excitement and action of BBL Cricket.
“GMHBA Stadium is the home of big time cricket in regional Victoria. As well as BBL and WBBL, the Stadium has played host to the Australian, Sri Lankan and West Indian national sides. We look forward to playing a big part in next October’s T20 World Cup showcasing six matches at the Stadium.”
“We’re fortunate to enjoy great support across two venues and we’re looking forward to seeing the stands packed with Renegades fans this season,” Renegades Coach Andrew McDonald said.
“Our membership and fan base in Geelong is strong and growing quickly, so to open the season at GMHBA Stadium will be a great way to begin our campaign.”
