Cricket tragics, rejoice! The Barwon Regional Cricket Centre, nestled at Kardinia Park, has swung its doors open, offering a world class indoor cricket hub for the region’s communities to access year-round.
As part of the fifth stage of the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust redevelopment at Kardinia Park, the Barwon Regional Cricket Centre rolls out a cutting-edge indoor cricket setup and is set to get even more people padded up and diving into Aussie cricket culture.
With five indoor lanes kitted out with Professional Bowling (BOLA) machines and Fulltrack AI tech, this place is a cricketer’s dream to fine-tune their game and smash sixes out on the field.
The Fulltrack AI allows players to record their sessions, review their bowling and batting techniques, and share data with their mates. Meanwhile, the BOLA machines let you face deliveries at speeds from 24 – 152km/h with options for spin, swing, and pace – or mix it up with random variations.
Situated in the new Djilang Plaza outside Gate 1 of the stadium, the Centre brings together indoor nets as well as indoor changerooms, a meeting room and reception area to the Kardinia Park Precinct.
Set to be the go-to spot for cricket clubs across the region, the Barwon Regional Cricket Centre is all about boosting local cricket participation along with coach and player development. The centre will be managed by Belgravia Leisure, Australia’s largest leisure management company who specialise in the management of over 230 leisure and sports facilities across Australia and New Zealand, including local favourite, Geelong Golf Course.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos MP said the Barwon Regional Cricket Centre will be another exciting addition to the Kardinia Park precinct, made possible through the Kardinia Park Stadium Stage 5 Redevelopment.
“The redevelopment wasn’t just about ensuring Kardinia Park remains Australia’s premier regional sports and entertainment venue, it was about revitalising the entire precinct for the Geelong community.”
“The Centre will be a boon for local cricket across the Barwon Region, providing an elite facility for cricketers to enjoy the sport they love.”
Kardinia Park Stadium Trust CEO, Gerard Griffin said “To have an asset of this calibre in Kardinia Park supporting pathways from grassroots through to the elite level, shows the strength of cricket in this region. We are thrilled to have the Barwon Regional Cricket Centre at our stadium front door”.
Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said, “Cricket Victoria is proud to partner with the Victorian Government, the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust and Cricket Australia to deliver this new and modern cricket facility for the Geelong and Barwon Region.”
“As the fifth regional cricket hub to be built in Victoria, the Barwon Regional Cricket Centre will strengthen the region’s love for cricket.”
The principal function of the Centre is to act as a regional hub for cricket clubs in the Barwon region to utilise all year round with Belgravia Leisure looking forward to bringing exciting new opportunities to deliver both accessible and innovative cricket activities.
Centre Manager Paul Christie says that Belgravia Leisure is keen to deliver top-notch cricket activities to everyone in the community.
“The new Barwon Regional Cricket Centre, or BRCC, is a stellar investment for everyone. As an indoor venue with a raft of programs on the horizon, BRCC offers newbies a chance to learn the ropes and gives seasoned players a spot to sharpen their skills all year, no matter the weather.”
